School at Midnight
I was feeling kind of squirrelly the other day, talking to a cycling buddy of mine. We were chit-chatting about cycling, racing, training etc. and when I expected to be back 100%. I have been on the bike & swimming 5 days per week, probably far ahead than most in this situation, but nowhere near where I need to be to compete. In addition, I still have this broken leg thing, which is holding me back "a little".
I told him my goals for 2007 were probably more realistic than in the past, as all I want to accomplish this year is full recovery, be able to walk on my own, then strength training, aerobic base and some fitness. 2008 is more realistic for a full race schedule I believe.
He threw in that this will be a good year, to take advantage of my recovery & smoke me on some training rides, as I wont be in any kind of shape. I told him to go for it! Back in the days, pre-accident, there were times that I would spank them in a sprint or a really hard effort, and explain that I was like a bus driver, taking all of them to school!
I then explained that taking advantage of a cripple, with a broken leg & all is like School at Midnight: NO CLASS!
